I read that the US mint engraver James Longacre used the Liberty lady and put a indian bonnet on her for the coin, Also it was rumored that he used his daughter as the model for the coins of the US. Who knows for sure. Its only what I have read.

Thats true its not liberty on the coin but lets not spoil the party.
Still a great find and as we say in the US liberty for all.

Who rained on his parade, mate? I congratulated him and then told him a fact. Why do you feel that was wrong?

Even though its not liberty what Indian is it ?
Gocha thinking now GD ? Hope you know or soon will because I don't know myself.
If you do know or soon find out please share with the rest of us.

It's nobody at all. Some say it was the daughter of the sculptor who made the die. Sorry, but I didn't have to think about that one because I knew.

If theres no name for this coin then I think all of us at Thunter should come up with
a name other than [Indian Head-IH] for this coin.

If there is a name for this Indian then we will use that,if not lets pull together and give this
coin a proper name.

Sounds like this could be a lot of fun for all of us.

Whacha think GD,lets give this coin a name

It has a name. It's called the Indian Head Penny which has an Indian in profile on it, not Liberty.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
