Congrats that's quite a day you had, 4 rings, that's impressive.

Although concentric coils are normally deeper for some reason that 10"DD tests about the same as the 9.5" concentric coil, so there is something a bit special about the 10"DD,

I am puzzled as to why you could not use the MXT ? what was the problem ?

RR.

RR.

6 years experience with the DFX,
less than 6 hours with the MXT.
I got some very deep targets with the MXT on the beach, deeper than the DFX could go.
But at the park with so many targets experience counts.
i need more practice. Smiley

I do ok with the MXT and most loops however the 10" DD always seems to drive me nuts. I back the gain down and seem to be loosing depth.  Maybe nickel will find some tips on the 10"DD. I am still trying RR's tips. Last machine was the XLT which I never liked. The MXT has a more analog based tuning and set up and I like that.

If your ground allows it and your GND meter reads lower than 75 to 78ish then try the 950 coil because you can get away with using less disc and it will run quitter and go just as deep and it pin points better, I often hit coins in the 12-13" range using the 950/9.5 coil, Next time you go out switch to the prospecting mode and make a note of what the GND reading is, then you can make a plan.

I loved my XLT. it was the best detector for its time and still better than most.
i could pin point right to the coin i could tell the difference between denominations before i dig them up. No errors.
The MXT looks like an XLT on steroids.
i am sure its a good machine, i keep practising. Detecting

The MXT's can be a bit of a culture shock because they are a bit like a Discriminating GMT and the GMT hits like a Machine Gun on multiple targets in that they will signal every target and even on some you can't see,  The MXT is just the same but with a lower frequency, This is where some folks think that they are noisy but what this is in fact doing is showing you just how many targets are in the ground good or bad, There is no reason to turn the MXT down because the MXT will tell you if the gain is too high on the screen, saying "REDUCE GAIN LIFT LOOP".

Just because the MXT was designed back around 1999/2000 does not mean it's old because it is now in it's 4th version and as such they can still hold their own with all new comers, Not only is it lightning fast it has a full on prospecting mode that is real as it gets and then it becomes a lower frequency GMT. There are a couple of detectors in this world that a Guaranteed to do what they were designed to do and the MXT is one of them, Some machines are overloaded with unwanted or unneeded features but I have taken my MXT's from OZ to the UK and plain and simple it just works and The GMT and the MXT's have found thousands of Ounces of Gold from one end of the world to the other, I know of one person who found a 10.65ozt nugget and he said he got a very loud signal when he dug the targets it was well over 18" deep.

Just learn to trust the machine and don't try to make it work your way and it will shock the life out of you, There is no need for over thinking, Just turn it on and let er Rip.

RR.
