Go Up Go Down

Got out Mon. 8/24 to do some hunting.  Hit a few clad coins a water key, some of the old canning jar lids that had the milk glass inserts and this nice little pocket spill of a Merc and 3 Wheats.

The water key was around 6.5" or so and always one of the interesting things to find.  I'd say the find of the day though was the Merc/Wheat spill which turned up a 42 Merc, 41 Wheat, 42 Wheat, and 43 steel cent Wheat.  I was pretty pleased with that being as it was the first dug steel cent for me.  Man them steel cents come out of the ground nasty.

Here's the pics:

Thanks for looking and HH! Detecting

Eugene

I tend to agree that the key does look older yet.  I've got some video of the place and I found  a couple of poles out back that still had the old telegraph insulators on them that was being utilized as a clothesline.  The site definately has some age to it and I think there has got to be at least a couple more interesting items to be found there so I would say yes I'll be back there again sometime.  Hopefully soon.

Nice finds!
The water key looks like a winding up key for Grandfather / Floor Clocks that are about 5 - 6 feet tall, sorry but i don?t know the English word for them, but having ornaments on that key brings my thoughts to those old clocks rather then a water key, but that?s just what struck me when i first saw it.

I remember when I found my first water key a few years back that's what I thought it was at first too was a big grandfather clock key.  Still pretty neat to find though.

I had my doubts also.

Now I feal that you are right.

It does seem to be a water key.

I may have just learned somethin,{alt}

Happy Huntin,
