Guys (and gals),

I found this object with my new Tesoro coil, but have never seen one before and would like your help in figuring out what it is. It is about 1 inch square, about 1/8th of an inch thick, made out of what looks like lead and has a letter "E" stamped in a recessed hole at one corner. There is a circular hole in the center that has a bar that traverses the center. See the attachment

I have 2 mp4 files of less than a minute each showing me using the VibraProbe to help locate the thingy and also a penny. They are less than 190Mb each, but the site won't let me upload them. Is there someway I can load them to this post? I tried compressing them to a zip file, but they got only a little smaller.

Carl

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

It could be "poor man's gold weight" if it made of lead.
I found many very similar disks but made out of brash and all marked with English weights and measures markings.
Do you have a digital scale?
If your scale can measure penny weights i am guessing it will show five dwt. Or  7.6 grams
Try it.
then again i may be completely wrong

Well guys, I wanted to give one of you a best answer mark, but when I researched your answers I was not find anything that would help. Xavier's hemp weight only lead to hundreds of sites that all referred to marijuana and weight loss, and a Nickel's answer of a poor man's gold weight  found me nothing. They both sound like very good answers. Do you have anything that you might add that will lead me in the right direction? Thanks for your trying to help.

Carl

Xavier, I wanted to give both of you a best answer, but it would only let me give one, I see now that is a Hem Weight for dresses. I mistook your Hemp weight answer for something else. I had never heard of hem weights before, but I am sure the gals could use them over here in the windy city of Chicago or Albuquerque, New Mexico. Do they still use them anymore? What era do you think they are from?
Many thanks again. I learned something new.

Carl
