Haven't a clue either...definitely something I'd show to the local archie or at least check out in a decent museum, though.  As for the others, looks like that's a great field to be hunting (sorry it took me a week to look at these and post a response.)

Just a hunch, but could it be a remnant from a lead pour into a coining mold? A sprew for pouring or venting of the mold when the molten lead is poured.

yep could be a possibility, although it has a very uniform profile (1 rounded and 2 flat surfaces) with strait striations all the way along its length...i had wondered if it could be part of a spoon shank and made of pewter rather than lead. The local FLO is going to try and identifie it for me. More coins have surfaced so will post some of the more interesting ones in due course but having to play by the treasure act now (god bless those inquisitive hikers  Club )

Don't have a clue what it is!!  I wish we had somethings that ancient around here.  The oldest that I have seen found in this area was a 1731 Reale.  Found by a friend of mine in a field that I had been hunting for years.  Go figure..  I guess that's why they call it "huntin" and not "digin"...  LOL
