Go Up Go Down

Well, went to the old "spring" today. Was digging around the buried foundation. Nothing of value to speak of, lot's of broken glass and dish shards, some bullet casings, 1 silver spoon, 2 glass beads (1 blue, 1 green) & some iron odds & ends.

The old RR adobe Grand Lodge burned up many years ago and collapsed inwards and I'm uncovering the "outside" of the structure 1st, then will begin excavating the interior. Lots of shoveling & sifting but should really pay off.

Wonder what the beads were for? Trade beads maybe?

Well, its on early Spanish maps from 1659, before that & after, it was a stopping place for native americans, since the Spanish, its been a travelers stop, stagecoach stop, freight stop, the Santa Fe RR built a summer Grand Lodge for their families to summer at there, the locals have been stopping there enjoying the springs  (when it had water) & shady cottonwood trees & on Sundays, the RR would hire a local minister and he would hold service from the porch while locals sat under the cottonwood trees. Then there was a fire in the grand lodge, the RR seemed to just drop it cuz they never rebuilt it, the adobe structure crumbles and nature buries the entire foundation where it lay hidden. Then it passes from private owner to private owner until today.

So its at least 500+ years  Detecting with constant traffic on this 10 acre section

To tell ya the truth, I am considering buying a battery recharger & rechargeable batteries. Could have bought one by now. LOL

Talked to the property owner about "excavating" the house/lodge completely by exposing the outside of the foundation then sifting & digging throughout the interior of the house/lodge, he said have a ball. BUT MAN! Where do ya start? How do ya start? This foundation is huge by late 1800's standards. It measures approximately 30' wide by at least 75' long and appears to be about 18" thick and about 3' tall and made out of rock and buried by mother nature.
and that doesn't include metal detecting Detecting the "wrap around" veranda area that went/extended around the house/lodge. Then there's where all the other buildings were over the years which is part of an earlier history prior to the RR Grand House/Lodge being built.

HELP!!! I'm losing my mind!
