Bought a couple metal detectors a while back. We have not used them much though. Did try a few parks and the beach. But really have not worked with them much. Decided to hit our back yard, been out there before and mainly got nails. And a lot of false beeps. (Did not know about the taping of the lead.) After reading here with some new found wisdom. Hit it again. No real treasures, a lot less fake beeps, and stuff we missed before. Also at least I knew the sound was wrong for coins before digging. Still dug any ways. Anyways three places dug and three things found. One hummingbird wind chime, one key and one piece of aluminum. And thanks to the tips here I think I'm going to be doing more metal detecting.
