Go Up Go Down

Back in the 70's I found a bank of batteries made by EXide on an old ranch.

They were all still in place by a wall The Roof fell in long ago.   The Guy that owned it knew nothing but the ranch had been there sence the 1880's or so !

I new they were old because they had Stainless steel Outer Cases on them.

EXide  started back in 1888 so they came in about the same time but stainless didn't come to much later.

I Never opened them or mess but I wonder if they were not Glass cased inside.

They were all 2.some Volt batteris and Remembering rignt there was 6 or 8 of them.

The Tops were wasted but the Stainless was still clean just dusted up...

Never been able to find any like them.

I don't think Stainless was in wide use until after WWII but I may be wrong.

I think that the stainless one's came after the glass one's as an extra protection you may find that they were used in the 2nd WW and that it was the military that started with the stainless steel casings but I'm just guessing at the moment. Will have to do some research on this as I find it a fascinating object. Not to change the subject when I was a kid a friend of mine told me that there were some bombs next to where he lived so one day instead of going straight home from school I went past his farm and sure enough they were there all three of them (wonder what ever happened to them)  I sure would love to have them now for my collection.

X, I sure the Stainless ones had a Liner like glass or Maybe Even Bakalight in them.

I'm sure they were post WWII but have never been able to find info on them.
