Go Up Go Down

Well if My hip was all healed its hurting again today. Found this relic coupling today 36" deep and had a heck of a time getting it up and out of the hole then into my van.My buyer has not responded yet he is trying to figure out how much to pay or if he wants it at all...Told my wife we could plant flowers around  it and in it but she did not think that was funny. Till We Meet Again,

I just had a double hip replacement surgery and can walk with a cane if I take it easy.  The doc says six more months before I can stoop and bend for metal detecting.  I feel your pain!  But the surgery relieved a lot of my pain and I'd do it a gain in a heartbeat. Onus

Hi Cab,I am using a Seben machine, and this piece is so heavy I think my Cell phone could have picked it up. What made it so hard to get out is that it was straight up and down, and yes it is an old coupling from 1868

Eli Janney, a Civil War veteran and store clerk in Alexandria, Virginia, conceived and patented the first "knuckle" coupler in 1868. His design, the basis for the couplers of today, resembled two hands clasped together when joined. Able to close and lock automatically, they could be opened from the side of the car, greatly reducing the number and severity of casualties suffered by brakemen using the treacherous link-and-pin couplers.
