neither its clay -- it was a eyeball surface find while metal detecting --its totally intact and except for the fact one size is lighter in color -- (tan brown --due to being sun exposed for many many years --the ground side is a deep walnut color) its in near perfact shape -- not cracked or broken at all still 100% usible as the day it was made -- it just needs a fresh turkey quill or cat tail reed stem .

That is all anybody finds... but if you save 100,000 pop tops you can trade it in for a colonial pipe. That's why they call it a trade pipe.
