Here are pictures of a buried cache I found at Laguna Beach, CA..  Found about 1980.  I was using my Fisher 441 VLF detector and found this at a depth of two feet in the sand. The tea pot and candle stick holders are all that was salvagable.

I live about 8 miles from this beach and It has been very very good to me.

This is my first post.....I hope it works.

The silver rings are part of the destroyed candalabra and served the purpose of catching molten wax which may run down the lighted candles.

Have you dated them out of curiosity? Was it on a public beach? Being from the Midwest I don't know much about beaches, sorry.  Seems strange that someone would bury a cache on a public beach. Unless it was done a long time ago when not many people were around. Also, doesn't the tide and storms move the sand around a lot? I'm guessing it wasn't drifted in from a ship wreck because the pieces were together and two feet below the surface of the sand. What are your thoughts as to how these ended up where they did? Sorry for the all the questions It's just a really interesting post.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

The beaches are open to the public.  This would be called coastal or state property.  I feel that someone buried it since it was in a black plastic trash bag.

You're right about the surf moving things around.  In 1977 we had a storm which stripped the beaches down to the cobblestones.  The water moved coins into a very tight area.  I had to go home and get a shovel and screen to "mine" the spot.  I found a 1944 class ring and a gold tooth someone had lost.

When the beach gets stripped like that,  The incoming surf carries the coins up into the beach and drops them according to their weight.  I was walking a line of quarters the day I found my treasure.   That year I put $750 in quarters in to my savings account.  I used to spend a lot of time at the beach.

My guess is that this is the booty of a burglar who was worried about being caught by police with his stolen goods. Perhaps he meant to come by and get them later but couldn't find them. Burglars aren't the sharpest tacks in the box now, are they?

That gold tooth sure got me laughing did you have the stuff evaluated? And is that rust that I see on some of the silver ware ?I must say that finding 750$ sure would help me right now.

Happy hunting
Xavier
