Bugfly,  does it say anything on the back of the button?  (I'd ask for a picture of the back, but the lettering would be so small that I'm not sure it would show up well enough for us to see).

well, based on the fact that the border is NOT a uniform width, it looks to me like it dates back to the Napoleonic wars (ca 1812)....check this out:

sorry, I don't know the answer to the question, but I'm pretty sure the author of the website can tell you.  There is a hot link to his e-mail on the left side of the web page.   Reading other sites, it sounds like he's good about answering queries.

Hi Bugfly.
The button is obviously "navy" but the crown is not British type cant tell what country it is.
My 1812 naval buttons are solid and flat both pewter and brass, made in "Soho London" Button maker is "Firmin"
