Go Up Go Down

My wife and I did some relic hunting out west of town today---or at least that was our intention.   The area we were hunting in has been hunted pretty heavily for the last 30 to 40 years, but hope springs eternal.   While a few of the others with us found some silver coins and a few wheaties, the two of us came up with nil on the coin front and not much on the relic count either (at least not that was worth sharing).

When it came to the metal detector, my two most impressive finds were also my biggest and my smallest.   The biggest was a buried trash pit going back about 60 years (I sifted that hoping something good had accidentally got thrown away).   The smallest was a paper clip---but I consider that one impressive because I found it at a depth of 4 inches.

Since I refuse to have a bad day when I'm in the field, I thought I'd share with you some of the "other treasures" I found while detecting.   If you look really closely at the picture that looks like is just a shot of the ground, you'll see 60 year old tank track marks going up the center of the picture.

(and just to make double sure it was a good day, we came back home on a different route so we could identify some future  hunt sites).

Happy Hunting,

BA

Way to keep it positive BA, there's enough people that can't seem to see anything but the negative.

60 year old tank tracks? Wooaaa that's crazy! Any day out of the house or office spent in the great outdoors is a wonderful time no matter what you find.

The only reason why the tank tracks still exist is that they are out in the desert.   It's amazing how long tracks of any sort will exist out there, especially if they get put down during the right time of the year (i.e. the rainy season).   Once a protective crust forms on the desert soil, imprints are pretty much set until something comes along to break that crust.    That particular set of tracks will probably be gone in a few years, but there will still be others to be found for years to come.

Any day outdoors is a win Smiley Never know one of those new sites you scouted will pay off big BA!

The desert is an amazing place, on one hand an ever changing landscape and on the other hand a time capsule. There are still a few places here where wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail Pioneers can still be seen. Simply amazing.
