I don't know about you guys but I really lament the passing of film cameras. It seems like they are vanishing in the blink of an eye. I miss the richness of the medium. I also feel very guilty about embracing the digital world so easily.

That was such a nice camera you found there. Seriously. A mere 10 years ago and you could have gotten more than $1000 for it easily.

I agree, I just don't feel creative with a digital camera, and Lordy do they chew batteries, my sony's eat them even
when they are turned off, I would like a digital SLR, But my Nikon's where as good as a person could find,

When the camera is not in use remove one battery from the pack this will prevent them from discharging. I had the same problem on my Cannon A640.

I just wish I knew how to take a decent pic, whether using a digital, a Fujica, or a KodaChrome, lol.

One secret to taking great photos is to have a very small overture and a long exposer time like one second this will give depth of field and a very good all round focus of coarse the object has to stay perfectly still.

The thing is that with the digital camera you have an instant result meaning that if you messed up you can (at most times) take another photo also you are not limited to 36 exposures and the cost is so much lower that it's now much more fun to take photos and more accessible to every one. It did take me a while to get used to this freedom of photography but like you said it was a rich medium.

Regards Xavier

I believe what I miss about it is the whole skill set that had to be developed over time.  I never possessed it but my grandfather did.  He ended up taking pictures for the Sheriff's department of my home town after he stopped wearing the uniform as a deputy.  He got into crime scene stuff and watched the technology develop into what it is today.  The skills that he had were measurable in his final product.  He was recognized for it and people would sometimes tell me that they knew him through his taking their team baseball pictures or other events that he just volunteered for just for the fun of it.

There is still a whole lot of skill needed to be a photographer but things are just different these days.  Shots are much easier to set up and edit after the fact where you either got it right or you didn't when you took the pic.

I bought a cheapo chines camera and I'm lucky to get two or three snaps out of it before it shuts down.

And that's with Duracell. :Smiley

Grin Grin Grin there must be something very wrong with it perhaps in the flash? I can take about 300 photos with mine (no flash) but I always remove one battery from the pack otherwise three days later they are near finished it uses 4 x Nimh AA batteries (1.2v)
