Yes BA you got it. Cricket a cricket pitch and a small grand stand and probably two more one for each team. Where I found to locket could have been the place where onlookers were and where the belt clasp were the players, now we have to find a few more items and we will be able to draw a plane of the place and I know exactly where I fond all my finds. On Sunday I will take GPS coordinates of all the finds past and present.

Keep in mind that your "grandstand" might have been nothing more than the beds of wagons or carriages or the top rail of a wooden fence.  But rather it was a permanent structure or an ad hoc viewing area, it still would be a place where people would have lost things. (and it probably had an area for "refreshments" even if that consisted of planks stretched between two upturned barrels).

Buddy, I suppose that is possible but when I think who the occupants were, I somehow doubt it  No no! in those days, cricket was a white mans game, in fact I doubt they could even afford the equipment  Cry maybe I am thinking wrong.....

Gambol, must I send you the bullet case now  Laughing I wish we could find gold, we are working hard at it  Welcome maybe Sunday will be the day.

I don't think that they were there at the time or they would be about 180 years old today and they are both still alive. Now are you starting to see the picture?

Could be their relatives were, but if so, most likely not in their current capacity

Grin Grin No sorry BA wrong skin colour. Just to give you a bit of the history about this farm I will have to get the correct date but if I recall correctly this farm dates from 1836 and was in the region of 10Km by 20Km it was then subdivided after the death of the owner and we have portion 16. The town of Walkerville is actually on this farm. When it was subdivided new dwellings rose up as with the house of General Smuts. I have just tumbled on a huge source of information about the origin of this farm and thus take all that I said back. Please have a look here. (It seems that I have been wrongly informed)

Very interesting links there.   I even noticed the cricket angle in the Mann story.

Yes he was quite a player but the most interesting is that they were all English and this farm has an Afrikaans name "Nooitgedacht"  now what I need to find out is, is this name from before Walker bought this land? or after?

OK so are you done yet? as you will have noticed there is a lot of cross referencing that we can do. Ho and by the way don't you believe it when they say that SA is a warm country.
