Go Up Go Down

Got out for a short hunt this afternoon.  Wasn't out for very long but did manage to pull a couple clad and a 28D wheat. Shortly after turning the detector on though I got a signal at around 5" or so under tree roots and retrieved this bird band.  Pretty cool find I thought.  Looks to be an older band possibly and most likely from a Duck or Goose.  I reported the band and answered a few questions.  I should have my certificate of appreciation in about a week with the banding info of the bird.  Will update then.

Thanks for looking and HH!

I have seen where others have found them and done the same.  Also a small internet search Provided me with the rest of the information I needed.  The newer style bands will have the national 800# stamped into the band and this band did not.  The  reporting number is 1-800-327- BAND.  Not all bands are the type that are reported to this number.  The one I found was a federal issue band and had stamped on it "AVISE BIRD BAND WRITE WASHINGTON D.C." along with an 8 digit number which identified to the bird that was banded.  If you do a google search for "AVISE BIRD BAND" it will explain all about the different types of bands as well as history of the bird band and reporting procedures.

Not sure how far it traveled as of yet.  Unfortunately it's taking longer than expeted for the certificate.  They say that they are still trying to confirm details I guess.  Time will tell.

Still Cool!   The bird band I found had been down to South America and back twice.

Crazy Stuff.

I went ahead and [ut a call into the
Bird band lab today to ask if there had been some sort of problem with the band or the way that it was reported since it was taking longer than I was first told it would take.  Only got a machine...left a message and am waiting on a call back to see what is going on.
