Cheesy Well I got out today and spent about 2 hours at a local park that hosts our anual carnival. Talk about a bunch of targets. The area is about the size of a football field and I was able to make 1 pass 3 ft wide so alot more area to cover. Found a bunch of scrap and $1:04 clad not but for a second try retirement is getting closer a dollar at a time.....

Funny you should say that about "one dollar at a time" because when I first started out, I kept every coin I found in a jar. Soon, I had to replace the jar with a muriatic acid bottle, which is used in pool cleaning. This bottle was about 18 gallons in size made of thick walled glass. I filled it half way up with coins in a year and could no longer lift it. Going on vacation one year, I spilled it out, counted the coins and wrapped them all in coin rolls. I had just about $1,300 face value with several rolls of silver coins. Back in the 1970s, that paid for a very nice family holiday - courtesy of Mr Garrett.

I still have the Garrett Groundhog I used all those years ago. Still working like a champ but a bit heavy for all day use these days.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

It was an interesting day allthough I bet my back will be a little sore tommorow. I found one thing interesting I was getting some very strong signals indicating a quarter and when I dug it it was an old crushed can. this happened twice. Is it common for cans to act like quarters? Found out more good news today the carnival that happenes there is next weekend so I should have a bunch of fresh targets....... Funny

Good finds... and yes alum cans can sound as coins... I find if I bring out a penny, quarter, soda cap, anything alum. and a gold ring to the area I want to search, I can get a sound that I can remember for when I hunt.  I find each area weather it is the sandy park, back yard, vacant lot... some things sound a little different with each area.

Good luck and look forward to more posts...

Aluminum cans can sound like and read like a quarter......when checking the target in pinpoint mode you will most of the time find that the signal is broader and louder which can indicate it is a can. Although a coin laying near the surface can give loud signal as well in pinpoint.   John in Va

Yes those pull tabs are all around.  My Alum Foil ball is about the size of a bowling ball.  But at least you are cleaning out the junk. You are doing great!  Happy Hunting!

Well today Iwent to St Augusting beach by the pier and worked the volleyball courts, Boy those volleyballers can drink beer I was the master of the bottle cap   lol... The beach didnt yield much better a few pieces of scrap steel and some foil and one rusty bobbie pin. Got skunked for cash but it was still a god time the weather was beautiful and the beach empty.

Keep at it... Just think of all the trash you have gotten off the play area... At least the weather was good.  Try going out on the beach at low tide as well... I have heard this is a good time.  I look forward to hearing of more treasures...
