I had to look that one up... looks like the land was allocated in 1919... the Naval base opened in 1922... I don't have any contacts there... I have been looking for some old spots, but they are mostly surrounded by concrete....

1919 1922,well worth looking into,buttons badges,silver dimes,silver quarters,weeties,could be a great new site,plus you where in the navy,should not be a problem after what you removed from the volleyball sand box,,,,go for it,mikek

Like most sand pits the world over, the junk finds are often construction debris rather than old historic items. The sand almost always had to be imported. Good finds, on the other hand, are usually lost by human activity at the sand pit.

Look at the grinder areas, assembly points, sports fields and picnic areas. Those will have the good stuff.
