Well only put two hours in today as we just could not work any longer after digging all week.
 found i think millions of old iron nails and tons of broken depression glass  and some of these old iron things. and Vince found a possible ring, old bent spoon and iron plate of some sort,and what ever this piece of iron grate is and I think a  metal salt or pepper shaker top. That's all till next week for us.. Have a great weekend.

Hello Capt,

      Your grate is probably just that, a grate off an old woodburning or coal burning stove.  As for the salt/pepper shaker top, expand your search field to include other powders such as tooth cleaning powder (the predecessor to toothpaste) and talc.   Personally I'd lean towards the talc angle rather than the salt/pepper.
