Go Up Go Down

Here is the last two Relic hunts...
It has been several days since I have gotten to hunt. I am getting more and more comfortable with the CTX and thought it was time to check out another feature on the CTX…

The GPS/Mapping Feature.. Some don’t think this feature is very useful, but in cases where you want to make sure you cover every inch of a spot, then it can be very valuable especially in open fields or wooded areas where it is hard to tell exactly where you are.

I have been relic hunting at this particular spot for several years now and I know there has been detectorist’s hunting this spot for over 40 years.. So going out there and finding anything speaks well for the CTX. I hunted in a combined mode, Ferrous/Coin, bottom line (Ferrous 35) blanked out. Auto +3 which ran at around 24.

I started where I normally do and it wasn’t long before I found my first Eagle Dragoon cuff button of the day. The backmark said Scovill Mfg and had 3 stars.

I continued on. It wasn’t long before I found a couple pieces of lead. The first might be a chewed piece, but not sure.

Next was this small pistol round. Possibly .38 caliber “Tranter”???

I did find this small copper arrow point. It is deceivingly heavy and stout for its size. This is only the second one found at this site. It closely resembles others I have found in the central part of the State.

Next was my second and final Eagle of the day. It too was a Dragoon cuff button. The backmark was different. Scovill Extra.

Here are the totals for the day.

Now to the beneficial part of the hunt. I was sure that I had good coverage over this spot, but I was wrong. I did not pay attention to the screen while hunting for the purpose of showing how I can miss spots even in such a small spot. Now gridding a small yard would be a lot different, because you can put down pins, or use landmarks. At this spot, it would be impossible. Yes this can be achieved with a stand alone GPS, because I have done it. The Great thing about having it in the unit, it is 100x faster. Two pushes of a button and it is marked and you move on. With the stand alone, you have to pull out your GPS mark it. Yeah that don’t sound time consuming, but believe me it is. Now that don’t sound like much, but the speed also is in the Exchange 2 program. Quick and easy, and FREE MAPS thru Google, no more purchasing quads. Again Speed of this feature is the key.

As you can see I really missed a large area in the middle. With this map I can go back go back over this spot and possible recover finds that I missed. I really think this feature, if used properly, will clean up a lot of “hunted out spots” by covering every square foot! Now this isn’t the total screen, but to protect my spot I have edited the landmarks and location(gps). The Points of Interest, are where the finds I made today where recovered.. I really like this feature and plan to use it a lot more…

Day two...
So I went back to hit part of the spot that I had missed while hunting on the last trip.. I don't have the screen shot but I covered the East side of the spot missed. And here is what I missed on the first outing..

Both are Great Coat Buttons, both are from the 1820s-1830's era.

but the backs are different. Two different types in one day..  Cheesy Shocked

The top piece I believe is a Epaulet Shoulder Scale but not sure... Hope you enjoy..
