hiya i found it in scotland in the perth area near dundee its made of silver and it came out the ground more or less like the picture all i did was run it under the tap

a hammy is a hammered coin sometimes we call them hamsters its a word we use in england hope this helps

Don't feel too sorry.      It's their way of getting back at us for using terms like "Merc" and "Rosie" when we are talking about "winged liberty/Mercury" and Roosevelt dimes.    Wink   Since the areas where you are likely to find a hammered coin are very rare in the United States (the eastern most portions of the original colonies, beaches where Spanish coins might wash up, etc) it isn't surprising when one of us has to ask.    But if you think coin talk is confusing, just wait until someone starts carrying on about finding "Civil War" relics---the 200 year difference can make for some interesting threads.

A hammered coin in general is usally from the Medieval times or earlier and silver, copper, bronce or gold.
