Go Up Go Down

Finally got my first silver a few days ago! and got my second yesterday!

First is a 1924 s standing liberty quarter!  Smiley found at a old house that was just demolished. Was only a couple inches down. The back has some crud that won't wash off with water. Not sure if I should try soda or something or just leave it alone. Don't want to hurt the value of this one since it is not just run of the mill.

Second is a 1942 washington. Found at a house I just bought to rent out. House was built in 1955. It was about 8 inches down. It was nice and clean once rinsed off. Also found a bunch of clad and a 1944 wheaty yesterday.

Still have alot of the yard to do, so hope to have find more soon.

nice finds!  I soak silver in really hot water with dish soap and rinse, if that doesnt work, I do it again and then use a soft bristledtoothbrush on it, or a soft electric toothbrush. Make sure its a very soft one and warm the bristles and coin in a small bowl to soften them even more, And repeat as necessary. I dont worry about the patina on silver, I worry about scratching it. There are ways to re-tarnish silver.

There is just something super satisfying about pulling something out of the ground that has been buried that long! Especially when you see that silver! I love history and always think about who lost something and what they were doing.

I have some civil war stuff that is probably my best finds I will post soon. I just have to stand there and try to picture 150 years ago. Pretty cool stuff. Nothing quite like the feeling.

Nice finds!  That silver sure is pretty when it comes up out of the dirt, isn't it?!  Great  Looks like you did okay with the clad coins and pennies, too.  Congratulations, Alan.  Keep on swinging that detector and show us more finds.  Thanks for sharing your pictures.   Detecting
