Go Up Go Down

I went out for a hour in the fairgrounds lot and found a few clad coins and a cool 925 silver ring but it was smashed and broke when I tried to open it up. However, silver is silver and it still adds up. I found this at 5" with the Fisher F2 at a spot that I have went over many times before. It just shows that you can always find new items in spots that are previously hunted.  Wink    Warren

warrenmonty, Nice ring. It just goes to show that places we thought were hunted out still have treasures to find. I hunt a place that has been hunted since 1988 or before and the other day I came across a 1901 indian head penny. My first old coin from that site. It was right out in the open where it should have been found down about 2 inches. I think the area was avoided by others because it is littered with 'hot' rocks that give false signals. I got around this with a combination of 5" coil and very low sensitivity setting. My logic was I would be able to find very shallow targets which was better than none at all. ......   Next time try heating it up before un-bending it. Heat it to dull red heat and drop it in water. This will soften it up.  You may have seen the ring I found last week. It was in the rut of a driveway in gravel and had been run over several, if not many times. Suprisingly the only damage was that it was slightly out of round and one of the stones was loose. I need an ultrasonic cleaner to get the dirt out of the setting. I have one in the garage that needs a transformer and one day I'll get around to it.

Nice finds. Months ago I found a 925 ring (see pic) that was really bent just like yours and fixed it. I used a billiard cue stick and carefully rolled the ring back to the wider areas until it finally rounded up.

Gambol1, Unfortunately the ring already had a crack in the band and I figured it would break but it goes into the silver scrap pile. Now I hope I can find some gold. This site had been a fairgrounds since 1876 but I only find clad coins and a Euro (?) but I will find some eventually. The problem is all the pull tabs and other junk I find and it goes crazy on the DD coil. I plan on going again this weekend with a 4" coil to see how it works with the trash. It seems to have a better air test than the 8" round coil so I guess we will see....................Warren

Good luck on the fairgrounds. I know what you mean by trashy places and that's one of them. The 4" coil should work well, but remember it is for smaller areas like around trees, corners, and difficult to reach places. HH

Warren, Good luck with the small coil. When I got my 5" coil and went back to a place I had given up on and found a coin as soon as I put the coil on the ground.  I was worried that the small coil would not go very deep  but with the small coil you can turn the sensitivity up to compensate for the smaller coil. Its great in a junky area. I often pull 2 or 3 targets out of the same hole if it is junky. With the big coil it would be so many targets you could never detect a coin.
