It is rose quartz. Many pocket mines near by that I am finding scraps left over by the lazy guys who worked it.

Thank you very much.

This is a roadside area that I found near my house. Lucky enough to live in the golden foothills of California.
Downhill side of pocket mine was cut when the road was bulldozed. One piece I found on the surface without diggin.

All the gold was found within the road easement area in a sub-division. Who'd a thunk it would be that easy.

Is part of the Road Easement?

As soon as enough people see what your up to, things could get bad. Huh?

Road is at the back of the subdivision and only a couple of houses there. I only go out mid-week and make a point of not being seen working the area if a car comes by.

The diggin's are becoming somewhat noticeable though. Tongue

If and when asked, my response is sub-surface trash removal process. Then I show them the square nails, aluminum cans and all the other trash I haul off the side of the road.

End of the season as well, ratttlesnakes take over.

Brings up a topic, anyone know the DOT's stance on people working the sides of the roadway?

Here in Missouri one can volunteer to maintain a section of road. Pick up the trash, etc. They will even put up a sign next to the road that says Maintained By and your name or the name of your organization.
It might be an interesting way to go, plus it would give you a legitimate reason to be there. Also, you get to recycle all the aluminum cans you find!

Don't know about there but most road easements are at least twice as wide as the road.

Just google Public road Easement your State.

Someone owns the adjacent properties.  That could be a Plus or a Minus. EEEEa?

Yeah, that's right homefire. The volunteers maintain the right of way, not the actual road itself. In other words they pick up the trash alongside the road, they don't patch potholes or repaint the yellow lines, etc. Also around here the right of way is fenced. Makes it real easy to tell where private property begins.

What's the Topography of the place your finding the goods?

Did they cut into a hill or did it float down a valley from some place else?

 Cool

Go Up Go Down

Small hillside that was cut into for development. Keyhole shaped pocket mine was cut into at the bottom of the key. Many pockets around as well as ditches where the quartz was followed. Kind of a blossom of quartz pockets. All the roads around here have quartz veins running through the cuts in the hillsides. This was a lucky find for me. I really want to move on to another location to continue to learn. Bout rubbed this one bare with my coil, but still finding targets to dig so I know I am not done there.

Here is the pocket from the road.

Good book about this area is called "Hidden in the Chaparral". I'll have to look up the local author.
