Today I also found this $2.50 token from Gold-n-Detectors in Golden, Colorado at a Chicago school campus.

Is this the ultimate sale promotion for detectorists? I mean I have heard of "below the line" promotion, but never about "below the ground"  Laughing

Nice find! That had to be from back when detectors were much cheaper than they are today. That would have bought a current magazine back in the 1970s.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Yes. And it is also amazing the places where you can find these nice things in, like under a tree in a high school yard?  Shocked

Date wise, you know it is not older than March 1996.   That is when the "888" toll-free area code was first put into service... By the way, I just googled the company.  They are still in business.

Oh yeah, I know they are still in BIG business in Golden, Colorado. I even looked at their current catalog and is really extensive. I wonder if they still honor those tokens though!  Laughing

No, but both numbers are the still the ones showing in their website. However, their catalog does not mention anything about tokens. See:
