Another day in another park. Today I went to 3 parks all along a green belt that runs thru Northwest Phoenix.  Only found $2.80 in clad, but found this nice 4.2 gram silver ring at quitting time and just a couple of feet from the truck, just waving the detector on the ground trying to attract the atten of a couple of cute ladies. lol. Was shocked when I dug it up.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Hit up another park I went to a few months ago but had not had much luck. (Due mainly to irrigation flooding) Hit up the seconx soccer field and hauled in $3.95 in clad plus a 1920 S wheatie and this gorgeous gold Tungsten Carbide ring with cobalt blue and black finber inlay.

I  live in Arizina, so I  get many oportunities to go detecting. But when it starts getting over 100 every day. it is hit or miss.

Nice ring

Tungsten carbide is a very hard metal, and can only be cut by diamond tools. It is 9 on the Mohs scale. They never tarnish unless they contain cobalt which will pick up the oils in your skin and cause a reaction with the cobalt that will turn the ring black. Almost impossible to get it out without extensive polishing or grinding. It is used to make cutting tools that will cut titanium, and all kinds of steel. It is harder than Sapphire. That ring will be around for as long as diamonds are around. LOL.

Yes most people are familiar with tungsten carbide as being used in cutting tools. It has been used in Jewelry since the 1960's. A company called Rado made the first tungsten carbide watch then and advertised it as "scratchproof". Rings have been made out of it fairly recently, like made in the last 25-30 years. It is a tough metal and is the second hardest metal known to man. It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale.
