Go Up Go Down

Doing my homework at the local townhall and library turned fruitfull in our hunt for American Revolutionary small trails and encampments. I Grabbed the Garrett and took the Green horn Dan with me to hike up the mountain to the site. Dan's a good digger, but he needs to slow down on his perifery sweeps. After 45 min we hit jackpot, I found the 1935 the State Historic Association sign indicating the site where Washington kept soldiers encamped for a few months.  Ground was rough and hard, digging more then 2-3 inches was tough. i was getting hits, but nothing fruitful. This will have to be the new Tuesday spot for the month. GW HUNTER OUT-

Man, if I got caught digging somewhere around here like that with a historical marker, I'd be singing swing low in a 9 by 9 cell! You must have some good connections!
 Huh?

That is an awsome deal for you, I hope you find more great stuff! Keep on posting your finds, you have a great spot to hunt and its awsome to see what kind of history you pull out of the ground there!
I see you use a garret detector, what are the plus and minus with it, and how is the memory and depth detection on it?  Im only asking because Im getting a new detector within a few months and am leaning toward the fishers 75, but I do want to exsplore what others are using because I could change my mind by the time I choose.
Thanks! Erik of Tell City, In.

Whats the deal with digging these sites? I know its totally illegal. But is a brown sign that says this is the site of " so and so furnace 1802"  really off limits considering there is nothing there anymore? In NJ there are lots of these BROWN signs and we don not dare to dig or bring a detector when we walk the trails. But how do we really know the rules?

first i don't dig on state historical sites. the markers that are around our area are on peoples propert,y or in the woods where people usually arent. even though my town New Windsor/newburgh is huge historical area, my town has an open digging policy, in parks and all along the rivers streams, mountain trails and hudson river banks. so find an area with relics your interested in, and find out the laws in that town hall.

Thanks I was not judging you, only interested in what the color sign significance is all about, some are brown some are blue or black. I guess they are all the same when it come to historic land.
