Well... I asked a fellow worker to come with me today.  He had never been, but always wanted to MD.  We hit 2 tot lots.  I found the bag full of trash, but also 3 quarters and a metal shiny rock.  Sal was lucky to find a brass key from what looks like a music box and 1 dine and 2 pennies.

Had a great time till the batt went out on my MD, and the extra batt's were left at home.  All and all a great time.

Happy Hunting!!!

Sharen, does your Bounty Hunter have a tone discrimination mode? If so, you might consider using that and listening for the faint, deep targets which usually turn out to be the real treasures in a tot lot.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thank you!!!, Well, I first put on All Metal, but at times there is just too much noise with all the trash.  Then Auto Notch, then when I do hear the tone, I go over VERY SLOWLY and pin-point and check the depth.  I will admit, I do not like to dig more than 6 inches when at the park. But when I have an open field, you could plant a tree.  (Funny how you always seem to have so much dirt left over when you put it back in the hole...) I have found my nickels as deep as 10 inches.  My husband bought me a Garrett Pin Pointer a few weeks ago and that has helped so much with my digging.

I went to my sister's today.  She has lake front property and was nice enough to let me dig her lake line.  I found quite a few shot gun shells and 2 fishing weights.  I will go back in a week or so and try another area.

Thank you, all your input means so much.

Have a great night.

SharenH

Sounds like fun! I usually hunt the tot-lots in jewelry mode, detects everything from bobby-pins to bracelets. I think I've made all the local lots safe for the kiddies after this summer! No more trash!
Have fun!
