If the coin has no serious numistic values, I'd hit it with wash of Ferric Cloride.

That would pull the copper off the face Muie' Pronto.

A quick wash of Nitric would do the same.

If it does have Value leave it alone the damage is done.

Are you talking about my beautiful orange Buffalo nickel?  Laughing. Yes, my wife will remove the orange with a bath of nickel oxide. Numismatic value? Nah! Value only in my eyes. Thanks for the ideas  Great
