Actually, I made a mistake using the word "referred." What I meant to say was rather "minted." That is, the US has never minted the one cent coin as one penny, but a penny is what 100% of Americans and probably people worldwide call it. Anyways, "Find a penny, pick it up, and all the day you'll have good luck."  Wink

Wetwillie, according to my Official Red Book of US coins (2011 edition), your Indian Head cent is worth at least US 500 cents.

Regardless of price, that "one cent piece"  Grin is pretty dam cool. A good little addition to any collection.

Cheers

Sean

I sure am glad I brought this up.
All you guys got relevent input on this subject.
Hell, I call them pennies too.
As far as to how many pennies in da pocket
GD got a good grasp on the terminology,
I got cents in my pocket, too.
It is all a matter of perspective.
I like CYB's post a little history lesson there.
Take a look at a Garrett machine  Detecting
they have a knotch designated as "Penny".
I've called them pennies and nickles all my life too.
I will continue to do so but there is no doubt
they are still One cent and Five cent coins.
Glad you guys got to get in on this one.

Yall have a good day.

You bet man. And we all want cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, and whatever is picked up by our detectors, that is worthy of digging that is.  Cheesy
