been there done that. I uually put those plastic caps on the contacts,but I try to keep the away from other metal.
Luckily my detector and Garretts pinpointer only use one 9 volt battery each. I keep one in each side pouch.
I leave an extra in the vehicle just in case one of them goes bad.
I use one of those Sunbeam battery tester each time I go out to make sure the extras are fully charged.

Ive done that before. Back in the day when I was still in the army . I was walking around with a pocket full of batteries and a god gun for the miles gear. I darn near set my pocket on fire with 9volt batteries.

I keep a role of wide black electric tape. I run tape around the battery and throw it in the pocket. No worries.

I look like those young folks with their pants halfway on their rear ends.
It also seems to make my back hurt since I have no support and the extra weight pulls on the muscles.
I would like to have that problem if it was a full pouch of money though.

Use a pair of suspender straps to help with the weight and the movement prevention.

Have you tried a fly fishing waist coat they have lots of secure pockets of all diffrent sizes
