Go Up Go Down

Greetings All,
Detecting at a local High School and was met by a Security Guard who told me that unless I had a good reason to be on school grounds, I was trespassing, and he did not believe swinging a metal detector was a good enough reason.
I didn't care much, because I had just pulled a nice little silver ring, so I played the nice guy, and said goodbye.
Didn't like High School much anyways, but I think I will be back, just not when security is around.
Thanks for looking, HH Robroy59

Go on a Sat or Sun when there are no classes all you have to deal with is maintenance people who are easier to get along with.

Seldom is right... Don't detect at the schools while the students are there. People are very touchy about the safety of students and anything they perceive as a threat. Evenings and weekends and school breaks are the best times. They usually have a sign up on the reader board during breaks that let you know when the kids are out of school and when they will return.
happy hunting

Thanks for the insights, but I was there on a Sunday morning over the holiday break, there were only 3 cars on the parking lot at the time I arrived and only 5 when I left.  I think I was just unlucky enough that this security guard was having a bad day and decided to take some of his frustrations out on me, or maybe he just was trying to push my buttons.
Either way, I'll be back.   HH Robroy59

Rob, that says something about our country. Schools here in Florida are generally fenced with no Trespassing signs. Especially grade schools and middle schools. I keep asking myself. Has the country got that much more violent or are there just more lawyers? When I went to school back in the 50's the High School stayed unlocked 24/7. That ended around 1960 when someone broke into the principles office and blew the safe. Anyway nice ring. Hope you find another.  Clapp

Unless the school you visited was a private school, the security guard was
out of line by telling you that you were trespassing. No kids on site, on a
weekend and what part of "public" doesn't the security person understand?
Glad it was you, 'cus I think I would have pushed the issue to the max. BTW....
that was a very nice silver ring you recovered Robroy59. Great

Well pushing the issue can do more harm then good in some cases. Myself and many others here have seen total lockout of sites because someone pushed the issue to the school board parks board or city hall.

Remind them that YOU (Taxpayer) pay their salary, and you are their boss according to their Charter (City, County, School Board).  Cheesy
