A Wheatie. I'm smiling - you never know where they are going to pop up. It's been without an owner for quite awhile - neat that you found it  Smiley Sue

morning sue, lits the second wheat penny I have found, I have dug up lots of US coins here, even a merc dime,I live ca 2km from the former mcgraw US base Munich,it closed in 1991.My sister worked there, they used to employ so called local nationals then untill It was handed back to the german government in 1992,you could pay with US dollars nearly every where in the 1980ties in this part of munich (Giesing),the bars and beer gardens where full of GIs,the place was alive, most local people where sad to see the base close,it also put a hole in the local economy,I also found a quarter a dime and a few pennys this year, they give some signal them US coins you cant miss them, not like the nickel deutsche marks, they give a low tone...still its all history and I love finding it

It's always fun to hear the history of an area where items are found.  Thanks for sharing your finds & the area's background!

Mike, That's really neat that you found a mercury dime, too Great I'd love it if you'd score an Indian Head penny to go along with those wheats. I know it's not likely, but still, finding an old US dime and, with GIs in the area, makes it somewhat plausible.

I imagine it did make a dent in the local economy when the base closed. Several military bases in US closed in the 90s, too. People that I've known, who were stationed in Germany, really liked living there. Sue
