Mike, I have noticed that winter frost works stuff to the surface... once you think you have everything out of the ground, there, go over it again, next spring, after the frost is out.

Yes, it is startling, sometimes. I found it, when I lived in the Fraser valley, east of Vancouver, where the winter can be very wet with some frosty days. I noticed rocks appearing in fields (and in my yard!) where there were none, before. The rock seems to gather moisture under it and the frost then pushes it up... the next rain fills the space and starts the process over again. Smaller rocks seem to move somewhat less but still move, so any waterproof object, of rock, ceramic OR metal, *heaves,* as they say.

Nice you could squeeze a few more out of there.

My guess about the nickles is the operating frequency
of the machines you are using. They are both below
6kHz.

I use 10kHz and above. Nickles hit harder than pennies
or dimes. They hit more like a quarter, but with a lot less
continuity.

Sometimes I will clean up on nickles where tha higher
conductors have been cleaned out.

If you have trouble on nickles, just think about gold.
Small gold jewelry is even harder to find.

My machines hit hard on gold. My Compadre runs at
12 kHz. It will only air test a quarter at about 7 inches,
and that is streaching it.

But I found a 14k white gold womans ring yesterday. It
registered as foil.

My Compadre was getting 8 or 9 inches easilly.

That is good for me because I do not hunt for coins. I do
dig them, but that is not what I am after.

I am after gold jewelry and artifacts.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog
