Go Up Go Down

Only went out on sunday this weekend Due to circumstances beyond my control ( back is stuffed ). Had my first encounter with a council caretaker who's sole responsibility is to lock and unlock the public toilets. ( Talk about control freak ) Police who then proceded to  Teach lecture me, about leaving holes in the sand pit. How ever when I pointed out the fact that you could in fact see where I had been due to the surface of the sand being disturbed and that there was in fact no un-filled holes to talk about, which then led to my pointing out the amount of cat feaces I had flicked out of the childrens sandpit whilst digging signals, then showing her the contents of my nasties pocket, which was half full of broken glass and sharp pieces of tin, she informed me she didnt know metal detectors worked on glass as well, which I then took as an opportunity to tell her they dont, but due to the code of ethics I follow, that the glass simply couldnt just be left for a young child's foot or hand to discover along with the other sharp bits of tin I had found. ( she was half sloshed ) I finally managed to convey the msg to her, that I was just being responsible and that despite the amount of time I had been there, All I had to show for it was my  Clapp First toy car  Clapp and a useles $0.35 cents in modern currency. I then found her attitude to change from " I was a public menace and vandal " to one of  "you guy's with them there fancy fangled machines aint so bad after all " which I guess shows if you take time with public officials ( idiots ). You can change their attitude toward us. Anyway after that long winded intro the coins are from left to right a, 1988 five cent piece, 1966 ten cent piece (1966 was the year Austalia changed from the english system of pound shillings and pence, to the metric system) and a Y2K 20 cent piece. The car is one of those no brand chinese things a bolt and half a cable joiner and a flint wheel from a cigarette lighter.
Keep on  Detecting

Greetings Gozzo and thanks for putting in the extra effort on educating the self righteous.
I belong to a local Treasure Hunting group and we take pictures of the scrap we pull during
our monthly treasure hunt and make certain that the local politicians get a copy of the picture.
It really opens their eyes when they see the trash we pull from the ground.

I am glad you took the time to explain to the "keeper of the Keys"
that we, as metal detectorists, do a service by cleaning up some
of the garbage left by people too lazy to deposit their trash into
the trash cans. Well done and congrats on the keepers you found.

Judging by the lack of holes, and the depth at which i find some pull tabs i have a feeling, I'm the only person detecting the parks in my local area, so I have adopted a softly softly, approach with council employees, as last thing I want is to be greeted by a no digging/metal detecting sign. The Gold Coast city council have enacted legislation that prohibits digging with metal detectors, you are allowed to operate the detector, but can only use a sand scoop and i believe there is some type of time limit with regards to how long you can spend stationery. Also they consider any coins/valuables not on or near the surface are the property of the council. They are so serious about it they have tractors with a sieve like device on the back that goes up and down the beach every morning.  Cry  as any of you who have read up on the subject of coins and sand and tides you would be aware that all the metal finds it's way to a certain level in the wet sand which makes me think that there would be a small fortune sitting there.

Go Up Go Down

why are we living in a society that is trying it's hardest to stop ordinary decent people
doing something that's is harming no one!  Angry
what happened to trust and common sense? and who let these busy bodies take over? i didn't
ask for it.
we had some poor bugger slip off a ladder while working on one of the buildings being demolished
after the earthquakes, and now the dept' of labour and OSH are thinking of banning ladders in the construction
industry... for the whole country!! it's getting beyond a joke
