Detecting This has me motivated to take my detector down to this big open picnic /play ground for adults and kids and see what I can find. I have had a good feeling about doing it but its about 5 or six acres thats a lot of area were something could be missed

Poptop, The 250 is a good machine for coins and coin like objects like silver rings. The thing about the discrimination it can fool you into thinking the ground is clean when it is not. If you are in a trashy area and have everything up to penny discriminated out your machine may be blinded by the iron trash and you won't hear the coins. Run in the all metal mode for a few minutes to get a feel for the amount of junk in the ground, If its great, drop the sensitivity back one or two notches from default. You will still get coins down to 3-4 inches and the trash won't make the machine go crazy. I did a test and found that a nail will mask a dime at 1" so if your trash is closer together than 2 inches you will never see the coin between them. Lower sensitivity also ignores the deeper targets too. The absolutely best accessory for the 250 is the Hot Shot coil. You can pick up coins that are less than a half inch from a nail so it works well in trashy areas. I use a small coil on about half my hunts after I have gone over them with the big coil. If you are digging with a non discriminating machine you are digging everything and you are going to get coins laying next to iron. It isn't unusal to find 3 nails and a coin in the same hole.

Yep, This is why in some spots you do a clean up before looking for the goodies.

I hunted a old Drive in one time.

It took me three days to clear out the Pop tops and chit in one area just before the old Concession Stand.

Boy the goodies started rolling in after that.

great answers and thanks very much! Spent the weekend putting a cv joint in "Lurch" the rust bucket. New part was faulty, twisted in two, so I have more work to do. No beeping for me for a while. looks like the super sniper coil is in the future (I hope). Poptop!
