New to this forum today, but just wanted to say your a Lucky Man to get permission to hunt that site, good luck with more finds. I just recently found an area where a house from the 1800's once stood and am excited. But, yours takes the cake.

Here are some pics of the original 1750 spring house I want to find relatives of the of the owners that would have owned it during the civil war years up to around the depression so I can find pictures of the original buildings I want to dig the privy. I hunted some today but my machine was very eratic I think I got water in the coil somehow detecting in the spring there by the step in the picture it started acting stupid after I had the coil in the water. I even have it siliconed around the wire.  Foiled

Hi Foiled Again

You have a great place to hunt there my man. There is only one way to protect the coil from watter and that is epoxy or axle grease it also gives the coil a negative buoyancy. silicone is great stuff but it dose not stick to all materials (pity) as I tend to use it in a lot of applications but then so do most of us. Your coil should be OK as you are hunting in fresh water but it could take some time to dry out if you can't open it too bad now we will have to wait longer to see them great finds.

All the best
Xavier

Great place to hunt that you have there  Clapp I think that item in your hand is a button. On the back is where the wire was to sew the button onto the garment  :Smiley
That water well is quite amazing.... you do not see much of them these days. Hope the coil dries out quickly, will be following this post  Great

God bless
