I've thought about hunting the old corn fields, but im not sure what kind things I would find because its out in the open and not far from the river, I;ve always been worried the river and rain would have washed anything deep underground. Are you hunting a special field with a special history behind it or just random?

Just any old field will do- sometimes I find old coins, that farmers have lost while plowing or pioneering, I usually do the perimeter, then X the field, unless it's about 300 acre or so, I been working around a 90 acre field recently, takes lots of time, but sometimes some real good finds=Ya just never know, I like doing them, Fun and your'e never bothered, and usually the farmers let you come and go all you want, never need to even tell them, they enjoy hearing about what you find and looking at it, Try it you'll like it Detecting

I have been scoping a field that is For Sale that I want to MD I'm just waiting for the farmer to come and tilt the dirt over so I can MD the field without weeds. I have always wanted to MD a field that has been worked by people picking cotton by hand you just don't know who had a hole in their pants and dropped some coins or a ring.

I guess anything is possible, but most of the people I know who picked cotton by hand never had much money to lose.    Now, the folks supervising the cotton-pickers could've and would've been a whole other story.

Thanks, ill try fielding sometime, my wifes uncle owns several old fields I can check! One of the old fields has an old sandstone foundation and I have detected around it but it was hard to detect because of an old tin roof is scattered everywhere! Do you know how to detectect through tin and scattered debree areas like that, it is a real headache!

Dig each piece up carefully and stack them in a place you have previously cleaned out. As you do this, your more interesting finds will increase. And, you will gain the respect of your wife's family.

Wear sturdy gloves both for the tin and the critters. A centipede can leave a nasty bite mark.

Thanks for the reply gold digger! You are right, I'm gonna have to dig the junk to get to the good stuff arent I,"I'm so inpatient I guess when it comes to debree getting in the way!"  Wink
I just checked out your profile Burgar, I didnt realize how close you was to me! Have you ever tried to do any detecting in corydon, I have always wanted to detect their but have never been thru their but once, so I dont know much about the town or people except the short battle during the civil war! I didnt know you was in the Marines,"semper-fi" I was in 96-2000 and spent my whole tour in Okinawa! Im sure my time was much later than yours, anyways marines are marines and we are our own breed! " Thanks for any tours you may have served as your time in the corpes!"  Wink
