Go Up Go Down

Went back to the RR bed, which I learned was converted into a pedestrian/bike trail. Yes, the railroad way was abandoned and who knows who holds the right of way or if it matters anymore. Today I found more RR stuff, all by accident because my e-trac overloads as I pass the coil over big chunks of iron. But I know it is RR stuff and I dig it out to see what it is. Plus my wife joined me today and found some other RR stuff with her Pioneer 505. I can only ID the tie plates although this time they are different. Please help me out with the differences. I know that one of them has an imprint that indicates 1940 so I assume that RR section should be from around the WW2 timeframe. A reminder that we found a USN spoon from that time. The bolt and the other curvy piece don't know what they were used for , but look interesting. Again a number of flattened coins and a flattened piece of iron. I was told that kids put all kind of stuff to be flattened by the train. My e-trac will not detect rusted bottle caps, so I may be missing many of them. The one shown was found by my wife. Three wheaties were recovered, a bunch of memorial pennies, and some clad. No silver so far and the flattened quarters found so far are all clad. I cleaned them in the tumbler and they all show copper on the edge. Wow the one I found today was really flattened, probably by a really heavy freight one.  Crazy

Wish I could tell you about the plates, but the trail i have been on used a straight bar called a fish-plate and spikes to hold the light track down,I have not found any of those plates, and have no idea what your curved piece is but very interesting. Those railroad sites start to get more and more  interesting as you go.When you hit the camp site or the depot  is when you will find a lot more.

Yeah, interesting new thing for me. I'm mostly a coin/jewelry shooter and must admit that I have basically no knowledge of what I find RR wise.  Undecided

Look in sites like this!   Yes times have changed but I still recognise some of your bits and peaces here.

The curved piece in third pic is a spring clamp used to hold the tracks to the tie plates, then they switched to e clips and pandrol clips.

Thanks Taz. It is hard to find info online when you don't know where to look.

Do you know the name of the screw bolt? I even thought it was part of a train.

Looks like a Old Machine bolt of some type.   Could be from old machine.

Folks, I was told that the curved piece is a Rail anchor that keeps the rail from moving lengthways. Here is a diagram showing it.  Great
