If they did dump them you will need that 4 wheeler to pull them out the newer rails are very heavy.

Back in the 70's I found a cool ol mine Drift that had about 300ft of that track in it.  there was still two ore cars on in.

It all belonged to the Silver Bell mine at the time.

They didn't care what you looked for or did back then.

I waited too long and now it's all under the tailings.

THEY covered the whole area under 300ft of dead dirt from the copper processes.

Trying to figure out when the RR section that is now a walking trail stopped operating. Well, it occurred to me that the flattened coins I have been finding can give a clue. Today 6-18 I found two beautifully flattened or train struck memorial pennies with dates still visible on them. One is a 1981 and the other a 1982. I have not covered the whole trail yet, just a small fraction, but so far those are the most recent dates of smashed coins found. At least I know that this RR section was still operating those years.  Teach

Thanks. To add, in the 1940s, Chicago was the railroads capital of North America. Here is a link with more details:

No way I'm gonna take one those things home. I'd rather run an auction right from the spot I found them. Winner runs with the shipping and handling  Wink
