Ha Ha  Ha, I guess I do sound like a soap opera, you will have to forgive me, I am just so dumb founded for a beginner like myself to have my wife trip over a horse shoe while walking in the woods and for it to lead me to this forgotten lumber camp is just crazy. Did I tell you how this all started? I am President of my sons Band booster club and my buddy is VP. Well he has had a metal detector for 10 years, I believe its a bounty hunter, and really never used it  much. So we decided to go hunting for change after the football games under the bleachers and to collect cans for the kids for cookies and pizzas.Well i got the bug after a couple of pocket fulls of change and went and bought a  metal detector, and  here i am filling up my garage with all this vintage railroad stuff. I cant wait to find a bell or something like that. so thats my story, now the Bull he is another story that is between me and my finds not quite sure what to do. I was thinking of dressing my partner up as a cow but he wouldn't do it.  Till then, Here is a pic of what started it all,
Lou

Very nice story. You'll definitely find more interesting stuff as you move on. Those horse shoes are fantastic. Think they should be the first ones going into electrolysis. The bull reminded me when I was 15. I was w my friends hiking and accidentally ended up in a private property. All of a sudden this huge bull came out of the shadows and started moving in our direction. We all ran and jumped a fence. To this date, I don't even recall how I did it, but when the adrenalin is high you can make anything happen. We then made fun of the bull because it kept looking at us in front of the fence. Keep up the good work. Until the next episode, HH  Waveing

Thanks homefire, do you know what scrap is going for?

Posted on: June 10, 2011, 12:49:22 PM
Well here is what went on today. First of all I had to go get Blood test today so my partner went out himself which scared me cause like I told my wife he cant run real fast, of she had to remind me that he beat me to the fence ha ha. Anyway I was going crazy at the lab just waiting for them to get finished doing there Dracula thing. Well i go out about 11 am flew home got changed and went looking for my buddy. When i found him he was sitting under a tree with about a 12 foot ditch dug and was beat. what he had found was an 11 ft piece of T-Rail holy cow  no bull (pun). well after surveying the scene i knew we were in trouble because the tree had grown over the middle of the track and we could not budge it, we dug under and over it hit it with a sledge hammer dug more couldn't move it. The farmer told us we could not cut any trees so thats that. Soooo tomorrow we  are going back with a block an tackle and are going to try and pull it out will let you know what happens. while there i could not help but to search around a bit and came up with the second picture. My buddy Vince saw the bull today but he left him alone, I think its me the darn thing doesn't like , So until next time.

Lou

I think the chunk of track was claimed by the tree and it will be impossible to retrieve w/o harming it. I've received strong coin signals under trees to later find they come from underneath huge roots. Nothing to do but leave it alone. I would not cut a root to later find aluminum junk. Well, keep trying to see what happens.  Great

No We wont cut the roots either, if we cant pull it or hammer it out it will be there forever or until the next detector finds it.

Not a good hunting experience at the Port Murray RR station this past Sunday. Only hunted for 2 hours then got rained out. I only found trash and iron! I'll be back soon, I know there's good finds there.

Anything iron or whatever metal it is carries some value, at least melt value. Heavy iron stuff can be sold as scrap metal. Iron from RR also may have historical value and make excellent conversation pieces. Think about it. It wasn't bad at all.  Wink
