Go Up Go Down

I hard a nice day down the beach doing my first low tide. Just got my first metal detector and I am still learning the in's and out's of it's. Anyway doing the low tide a couple with a dog walked past, I did not take a lot of notice, smiled and kept on doing my thing. Then about 30 minutes later the guy came running up all puffed out of breath and asking my if I can detect Silver. I said yes and asked why. He said his girlfriend had been throwing the ball for the dog and her ring fell off. He said he would "fix me up" (aussie slang for pay men) if I could help him out. I said yes and we started walking down the beach to his girlfriend. I asked some details about the exact spot she was standing and started sweeping the area. I got a good reading for silver and started checking the sand. The girlfriend got involved and found a $1 coin. She then gave it to her boyfriend... Anyway I kept on sweeping and then asked what direction the ball was chucked. Turns out the place I was sweeping would of been behind her, meaning the chance of the ring being in a direction the ball was still being held tight was very rare. I started to sweep in the direction of where the ball was thrown. Within a short time I got another reading for silver. A quick slide over the top of the sand reviled the silver ring. They where both very happy and the boyfriend gave me a AUD $20 note for my efforts. So one Silver Ring find Smiley but I didn't get to keep it. I had headphones on and I could of been dishonest and not said I found it and came back later but I am not that way inclined.

Anyone else been asked for there services and if so how much did you charge / get paid ?

Hello Barry,

it is difficult to say but if there's a gentlemen agreement it should take into considertaion the value of the ring while of course the value is often a more sentimental one.

It also always nice to help people in getting back a beloved ring and it sure will make them very happy.

Best regards,

Christian

Well done. You did the right thing, guess there is no dollar amount on good deeds like that Wink. I'm a firm believer in Karma, and you'll be rewarded more at a later time!

Congrats on a good deed  Clapp

I successfully located a surfer's lost wedding band last summer. It was an advertised lost item on CraigsList and not too far from me so I decided to try. It took all of three minutes to find and I think I was the most surprised person there (his wife and young daughter were there too). They drove me to there home to take photos and gave me a check. I refused a couple times but they insisted so much and I could see they sincerely wanted me to have it. It was for $60.

My opinion is to never charge...it is our hobby after all. Of course it may be rude to not accept a small reward.

HH Joe
