Thanks for all the wonderful comments!! Very kind of you!

I went back to the same spot yesterday and dug up a watch fob that peobably dates to the 1920's due to the Egyptian motif. I wondered if there was a watch that went with it so I scanned the area and found one - not expensive though. A Westclox "Pocket Ben" with an internal date stamp of December 22, 1941. Also found a gold-filled sterling silver ring and a 1940 Mercury dime. Lots of odds and ends too - including a suspender clip with a patent stamp of 1871. Some rusted coin/medal I'm still trying to clean up and another large metal object with a patent date I'm still researching.

Going to try and go back as much as I can until the ground freezes so I can be kept busy with all the finds over the winter. I'm going to miss this hobby so much when that happens! (Boo!)

yes, if i lived in a cold climate i'd be detecting hard now while possible. i'm lucky in south carolina even during the middle of the winter it is only cold the first few hours in the morning and then nice by 10-11:00. i love that.

Nice haul!  I noticed the marbles. I was always surpised when I'd find a marble. A few years back I met a marble collecter who said he and some friends did some research and found the site of an old marble factory. They were in the process of buying the land so they could sift through the dirt for marbles. He was sure they were going to be rich.

You've had a brilliant first season there. Your finds are some of the nicest I've seen. As to the winter and bad weather, use that to do research for future projects. Almost everything you need can now be found on the Internet but don't rule out public libraries and historical society libraries. Historical societies also have archives full of personal diaries, journals and books just full of newspaper clippings that are all collected in one handy place for you to find them.

Lastly, welcome aboard from Australia!
