I have a question. I also found a seated dime (see my posting on it), but your's seems like . . . burned or something. I mean, those dimes are 90% silver so decomposition may not be a reason. I wonder what happened to it. It's a very interesting coin and your's is older that mine! Excellent find!

Hi Cyberborikua

You have to remember soil conditions are not the same all over.

I have found silver in this field before-an 1852 III ct piece, it did not look like this one at all-This one definately has been exposed to extreme heat, it's melted a bit! Maybe it was dropped int a burning pile years and years ago...oh if coin could talk :Smiley

No, I know that. But it is that it looks blistery if you will. Silver is a precious metal and thus it is hard to decompose, reason why most coins come out rather clean after been buried for so many years. I first though that he had hit it really bad with his knife.

I would imagine that that's due to the fact that it was exposed to high heat like in a campfire.
