Go Up Go Down

Hello,

after going for a walk in the forest with my child who was looking for bugs (and my ace 250), here are my finds, after 1 hour.

A 10 francs coin (1992) and a bullet (don't know if it is a WW2 bullet or just a hunter's one).

{alt}

I'll take another photo of the coin tomorrow.

Hi cache,

here are my kid's finds. He wanted to leave them sleeping at home in his cage - his mother does not agree at all, finding this very disgusting !  Grin

Your cartridge looks like 30-06 from WWII.    Look for a set of numbers on the head (Base)  .    Should be two numbers indicating the date of manufacture.

42 or the like.

Jefft, That's not a bullet you found. As homefire said, it is a cartridge; with the bullet intact. In other words it is unexploded ordinance. Be careful looking for a date on the bottom. Stay away from the round thing in the center as that is the primer. This is what the firing pin impacts to set off the powder charge in the cartridge. It may be inert after all the intervening years, or it may be very unstable. I don't want to see a fellow MDer lose a finger or two. You might want to take this to a gunsmith and have the bullet pulled and the powder charge dumped before you mess around with it.
Otherwise, a great find and a fun time with your son. Priceless.
