Dumps near houses ar very common. Look into probing methods aside from metal detectors for searching bottle dumps. You won't regret it.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

...But what she DOES know might kill YOU!  So make sure that plug doesnt die! Grin
At a lot of the older home sites, the kitchen was actually in a separate building, so that if there was a kitchen fire, it wouldnt burn the whole house down.  Maybe thats a possibility at your place? Huh?

Ive always kept a treasure chest of all the goodies Ive found, full of coins, jewelry, etc.  (But the good jewelry has ended up in my jewelry box!)   Watching that treasure chest fill up is what convinced my guy to quit giving me a hard time about my hobby, and start getting interested in it himself!  This past weekend I found a neat Chinese coin at a tot-lot, which my guy is trying to confiscate! Smiley

My advice is get ahold of a treasure hunting magazine, and show her pics of all the amazing jewelry that occasionally gets found - diamond rings, emerald pendants, gold earrings...  Let her see a few of those "finds of a lifetime" and her interest might shine a little brighter! Kiss
