Go Up Go Down

Well,  got my new detector a couple of days ago and decided to take it for a test drive on my landlord's apricot orchard down the street. Obviously found junk but I also found an 1853 five centime coin and a 1867 two centime coin with Napolean III name with the name of Empire Francais (I'm in France).   The coins were not in the best of condition but the dates were clear. Obviously, I was happy with the initial operation of the MD but need to work with it in order to understand it more.. I may not have been able to find one of the coins if it weren't for the pinpointer that I had.. I had been somewhat disappointed with it in the past but today I seemed to finally figure out the proper way to use it and what to expect from it.  All in all, a good hour or two... Coloma Gold

Yes, Homefire.. I have also found it before but it sure is a lot easier when you are down on your knees searching through the sifter.. It's easy to pick up the pin pointer rather that reach for your MD.. Pinpointers are not necessary. But now I'm finding that it makes it a little easier.. Maybe I am getting a little more lazy in my old age?!  Coloma Gold

Congratulations, Coloma, on getting out with the new detector.  Found a few good finds, too.  Good going and just keep practicing with it!  Great hunting and Good luck!  Detecting

I hate to think of  the finds i missed because i didn't have a pinpointer. That was many moons ago though.
I have to have one now. The eyes and ears aren't that great anymore but the beep of the pointer i hear
well enough. I use the Cen-Tech and its great. ARR!
Congrats Coloma. Keep it going.

Congrats!!   You'll find more when you know your machine better.

Sounds like your off to a really good start Smiley.   Is that the DFX you were talking about getting? My older machines like the Whites 5DB could pinpoint to a nat's A$$. My XLT was never able to do a good job pinpointing. I've heard the DFX is similar. I have gone through many pin pointers and currently use the Detector Pro Pistol Probe which I really like except it looks like a 1800s black powder handgun! Grin

Mudflap,

Yes, I was using my DFX300. I can't comment on whether the DFX is better or worse than the XLT yet as I haven't got the experience with the DFX yet. I do know that the XLT was a multi-use machine and lacked some ability in some areas. However, since I didn't 'study' it's features as I should have (during my working career I didn't take the time to read and study about it), whatever shortcomings it had was probably due to my lack of knowledge and practice. I am ex-cited about the DFX because I am reading more about it and trying to learn the features. I am also trying to be a better detectionist by experimenting with the various features.  I just ordered a DD 6 X 10 coil to potentially assist me in some specific areas.  My wife will be using the XLT at the beach along with me in the future. I have a white's pinpointer II and when I ordered the DFX, it came with another one as a free accessory ( we know that nothing is really free, is it!). Coloma Gold
