Is that the letter E on the bottom left side of the second picture?

I don't know, it looks like part of a pattern but also like an E. One can clearly see that the tools used for this were very primitive though.

Hello all,

It's very difficult to say whether there is actually a E engraved on whether this is just a continuation of the pattern.
I attached some additional photos.
Thank you.

After looking at it for a while, I'm going to say that is the continuation of a pattern, IMHO!

Thanks for the photos Luc and I agree with Arfieboy. In Africa different tribes have there distinctive patterns so when a clay pot is found we can easily identify from which tribe the pot came from but with this I have not even found something that looks like what you have found.

Hello all.
An idea on the cross engraved with equal arms and the four rays, I think that that be the representation of the cross called Shankar of the Rosary (the points representing the grains of the Rosary). What do you think?

Yes that's what I had in mind but could not put the finger on it, it could very well be that it had to do with the church and I'm sure that there was a chapel in that castle, this is really going to help.

looking at this photo makes me think of a chapel
