Go Up Go Down

here are some interesting finds i made detecting along the way on a trip to Nevada to help some buddies sell gold mining equipment at a gpaa gold show. we stopped in winnemuca, Alkali, a mining camp in the mountains southwest of winnemuca, and a steam engine stop along the southern pacific railroad. the hand made brass railroad lock was a huge thrill to find as it is worth about $350 to collectors(see railroadmemmorabilia.com past auctions locks). i found it at about 12" down in the middle of a huge black spot that was obviously a coal pile location. At the mining camp all that was left were stone foundations were the crude shacks were located. here i found the pocket watch chain?, square nails(lots) a couple of bullets, small pill bottle, us button, a weight from a measuring scale, and a wick adjuster from an oil lamp. in alkali, i found a very corroded silver coin, i believe it to be a half dime, (not pictured). i put the indian head in as a place holder, not from this trip. it was the right size for a half dime and would be my oldest coin found if so. i dont remember which local i foung brass buckles, not alkali for sure. enjoy pj

thanks mick, that desert hunting is real fun. hope to do it again someday. in nevada, you can just drive off the highway and go cruising out into the wild without a road, following gps settings for old mining camps and ghost towns. pretty fun till you have more than 1 tire go flat. thanks again to whoever that was that posted the photo resizer, without it no pictures. pj
