Go Up Go Down

I had about an hour left in my day and I stopped by a vacant lot I have been eyeing for some time. After digging six or seven flattened cans I found these three items in the same hole. The cent is 1977 and the 45 shell casing was apparently jammed on ejection. that is why it's short.

Interesting finds you have there. Your site shows promise from just those items.

A .45 might get jammed but the jamming is normally caused by the tiniest of variances in the cartridge. Most likely that one was hit by a lawn mower. The damage is far too significant to be done by the slide mass and the ejector pin of a gun.

Nice find bud. Hope you find the matching candle stick. If we get to go in the next few days, I'll help you look.

GD1950, I questioned that too. This one is crushed pretty good for a jam. One thing that caught my attention on this shell is the firing pin mark. This is the 3rd 45 I've found within a 5 mile radius at 2 separate sites. Each is a different brand and as you can see the firing pin left a offset mark sort of like the cartridge was not completly seated when the pin hit it. I don't remember the U.S. M1911 I was issued leaving a mark like that. What do you think? Were these from the same gun?
I forgot the photo!
Rogerc42, sounds good, Thursday.

If not fired from the same gun, for certain similar guns were used. That cartridge you have in your first picture could not have been damaged like that in firing it. The edges look too ragged for that. Stovepiping (jamming the casing in the opening of the ejection area) normally leaves only the faintest of scars to the top edge of the casing. That one looks pretty chewed up and even bent. The return spring on the slide just isn't strong enough to do that.
